Google Venice

The popular search engine (which now provides a whole host of other services), Google, recently announced some innovative changes in its company blog. Changes to Google Venice are much lauded as they seek to increase the ability of users to find local sources in their searches, regardless of where they are from, rural or urban. When users use a search engine, most often they are either looking for the answer to a question or looking for a product or service. Oftentimes, searchers are looking for something in their local area and Google Venice has been less than stellar in that regard, that is, until now.

Google Venice is being upgraded to provide better, more localized results so that users, regardless of where they are, can receive more relevant search results for their queries that are intended to elicit local results. The newly upgraded version will be able to better detect where, exactly, the user is located, and use this information to provide the most local and pertinent results at the top of the web search results. This is to make it easier for people to find what they need in their local area, utilizing while still being able to rely upon this popular search engine.

These upgrades to Google Venice provide for better utility for users and better results for local store owners. Now, when someone makes a generic search for something like “veterinarian”, the results pulled up will show the closest results first, as opposed to unhelpful links to services in another region or country. This is beneficial for local business as it allows them to be found more easily in relevant searches, increasing traffic to their websites, and a potential for a major increase in the local client base they receive. Local businesses will now need to add additional meta and other tags to their page that will improve their page rank for local searches. These tags, which are easy to learn, will make it easy for Google to locate the best results that are most relevant to the location and search terms the user is inputting.
